Last week I said that my friend has cancer. Now he's in hospice. Yeah--two weeks within finding out he had cancer, he had a few surgeries, including on his brain because the cancer spread there, and now he's in the last stage of life.

I love language, which is why I started Metrolingua. I currently translate Japanese and French, but I've also translated Spanish, Portuguese, and German. I speak Japanese pretty well and am a native English speaker. I used to speak more languages, but I've been putting more of my energy into radio, which is drying up due to consolidation and syndication. I also teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults, which is really enjoyable.

I'm sorry for your friend.
I've seen people struggle through the last moments of their lives - and that includes my aunt. Illnesses delineate the vulnerability - or invulnerability of life. However it is, just make the most of people around and ourselves while we still can.
Yeah, you see life differently when you see people dying.
