I got a free ticket to see The Pursuit of Happyness, and it's a good thing I didn't pay for it because it's not worth the dough.
Will Smith is a good actor, and so is his son--actually, everyone is great in this movie. But the story is full of struggle after struggle, obstacles followed by more obstacles, letdowns and frustrations--for most of the movie. I kept looking at my watch, wondering when it was going to end because I felt like I was being barraged with negativity and frustration most of the time. I knew what the ending was going to be, but I had to wait through a lot of stomach churning endurance to get there.
So I'm glad I didn't pay--it's not even a movie that has to be seen on the big screen.

ReplyDeleteWhoa! Do you think whatever is going on in your personal affairs may have colored your mood such that a movie like this was inappropriate?
I am curious. I have refused to see certain types of movies depending upon my emotional state. A few years or months after the fact, I can watch such movies. So maybe you should try watching Barbie cartoon videos with fairies and smurfs or something! hehehehehehehehe I think that movie with Will Smith might be good, but I have been dealing with too much baggage to even WANT to see a movie like that, so I feel you!
In any event, I hope all is well or improves on your end and Merry Christmas:)
Christ, a generation of people are now going to spell "happiness" wrong because of this garbage.
ReplyDeleteMahn: sure, I wasn't in the best mood, but my criticism is unrelated to that--it was just one obs after another--the plot was linear--problem after problem, and then relief in the last few minutes. Predictable and nervewracking.
ReplyDeleteJon: great comment--hilarious!

ReplyDeleteHello MJ:
Ah I see what you mean. Linearity is always predictable. Perhaps a fractal story line would be more intriguing;) hehehehehe Hope you are having a good time:)
There was no relief at all--only downer after downer--until the last few minutes of the film. And I had no idea what the real story was about, but the ending was predictable, so really, why would I suggest such a downer film with a predictable ending? But apparently, people are in love with this film.
